How it works
It re-encodes embedded images at a lower quality, strips metadata, and rewrites the file structure to drop unused objects — the bulk of where real PDF compression comes from. Text-heavy files (Word exports, LaTeX) typically save under 10%; image-heavy files save much more. Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked first. Scanned PDFs (JBIG2 / JPEG2000 / CCITT-Fax) are supported via small WebAssembly decoders that load on demand.
